History

Dear clients!

In this section you can get the irrefragable answer to the question: why the date of the establishing of Muuga CT is dated 1998, but our statistical data has initial point of indication from 1992.

With the highest level of confidence, we may call the stevedore company Ferry Terminal Ltd which were established on the 1st of November 1992, and offered container vessel handling services in the port of Muuga, the real predecessor of the company Muuga CT. Ferry Terminal Ltd handled Ro-Ro vessels in the port of Muuga and from the beginning of 1994 took the strategic course on development the conditions for handling containers in the port of Muuga.

In 1992 only 15 people began to work in the company. All these persons from the first team, who were still working in the company Ferry Terminal Ltd, and those who rejoined the terminal during 1993-2000 – are the basis of the personnel of the Muuga CT company.

From the first year of its existence, the Ferry Terminal Ltd has been actively investing its earned resources in the development of production capacity. Cargo turnover of the company grew rapidly, basically because of the intelligent price policy and huge aspiration from the personnel of the company to make their work with the highest possible quality.

Not the last thing in the development of container shipping through our terminal plays the fact that in 1995-1996 we were building production complex using own financing; this complex has comfortable and modern workplaces not only for our own workers, but also for civil servants from customs, border-guards, veterinary and others. Subsequently, we created the comfortable working conditions for agents, representatives of our partners on our territory.

In 1996-1997 it became obvious for everyone, and especially for directors of Tallinna Sadam Ltd: port of Muuga is the most suitable place for further expansion of container business; however, new quays and territory, and many more other things are needed for that. So, in 1998 the Port of Tallinn organises the tender on the right to built on the territory of the Port of Muuga new container terminal. Muuga CT was founded in this year, and this company won this tender.

From this time, two companies: Ferry Terminal and Muuga CT, solve relative problems in parallel. Ferry Terminal improves the production activity; attracts new partners and ship-owners for cooperation and by that increases cargo turnover; and, Muuga CT implements the project of building the new terminal objects of infrastructure.

During these years it became so obvious that the future of these companies should be the one and only, and in 2000 the process of integration of Ferry Terminal Ltd and Muuga CT Ltd had begun.

The unified strategy for both companies is – we never stop until we prevail and after we prevail, we aim for even higher targets – was and remains in force one of the primary characteristics of Muuga CT company.

Every year up to 95% of the profit company invests in new items of infrastructure, technology and enhancement of technical equipment. For example, in 1999 Ferry Terminal had bought mobile crane Liebherr LHM-250, for that moment it was the first such-like crane in the Post-Soviet region of the Baltic Sea ports. Of course, it is not a specialised container crane, which St. Petersburg and Riga ports owned. However, at that time, the terminal did not make bids for being the specialised container terminal.

The year 2001 became the first year of operation of the new – rather – the first phase of the new container terminal and the last year of working the Ferry Terminal staff under this name.

This year was a turning-point in the history of both companies: the beginning of the operation of the first phase of the new container terminal; also, Ferry Terminal Ltd existence came to an end, and company’s personnel make up the base of united and powerful company – Muuga CT Ltd.

In addition, in this year we began to use new equipment including the second, more powerful mobile harbour crane LHM-400. All legal and organisation formalities of integration were completed in December 2001.

One hundred and twenty eight professional and experienced people are working in the company. We have long-term contracts with big ship-owners, such as ESCO, UniFeeder, MSC, Maersk, TeamLines, and OOCL. The terminal continues invest money in modernisation of production, in personnel training, and in development of modern technology; also, in parallel, company increases its capacity and the quality of the services.

On how quick, but more importantly – how professional and qualitatively our terminal will be working will depend success and future of the company and the people who are working here.
